How to set up Click-to Messenger Ad to my Facebook Messenger chatbot?

An impactful chatbot solution not only creates an amazing chatbot but also makes it viral.
Apart from existing users, what tools can you use to bring new users to your bot? There’s more than one way to do it in the market, but running Click-to-Messenger Ads on Facebook and Instagram will be your best option for a fast and effective result.

Click-to-Messenger Ads can be placed wherever any other type of Facebook ad can appear, including News Feeds, columns, stories, and Instagram. Whenever a user clicks the ad, they will be redirected to Messenger. 

To create a Click-to-Messenger ad:


  1. Head to Ad Manager to create a new campaign, select “Messages” as the ad objective.



2. Under the “Ad Set” section, select “Messenger” as the Messaging apps. You may also pick “WhatsApp'' if you wish to have Click-to-WhatsApp Ads.

3. Choose the Facebook page you would like to place the ad on.



4. Head to the “Ad” section and import your copy and visual. Scroll down to locate “Message template”, press “+ Create”.

 

5. You can choose to have “Quick replies” or “Buttons” for customer action. To link up with your Messenger chatbot, select “Connect your bot” for quick replies or “Send a postback” for buttons. 

6. Enter your payload that triggers chatbot action. You can always see the message preview on the right-hand side.



7. Click “Save and Finish”, and your first Click-to-Messenger Ad is done!

8. Before testing your Click-to-Messenger Ad, please ensure you have turn off the Automated responses on your Page.
  1. Go to your page
  2. Select Inbox at the top of your page
  3. In the left menu sidebar, select Automated responses
  4. Click and unselect Frequently asked questions 
  5. Click "Save" and you could try out your Click-to-Messenger Ad now!


To evaluate the performance of your Messenger bot:

Knowing the source of entry will be crucial for evaluating the performance of your ads. On Stella, you can track user entries by applying different member tags. 

Suppose you are now tracking entry from Click-to-Messenger ads,
1. Open a new global node and name it “Click-to-Messenger Ad Entry”.
2. On the trigger, enter a unique payload for this entry (e.g. GET_STARTED_CLICK_TO_MESSENGER).



3. Redirect the global node to the relevant tree node (i.e. the node to activate when users click the quick replies or buttons).
4. Enter specific tags on the “Member Tagging” and “Analytics” section, and save the global node.



5. Remember to turn on the global node on “Channels”.
6. Enter the payload you just created (e.g. GET_STARTED_CLICK_TO_MESSENGER) to the “Bot payload” section of the Click-to-Messenger Ads.

After the successful setup, you will be able to view the link performance of your ads on ad manager, as well as the entry performance from the Dashboard of Stella!
